ABOUT ALICE

Alice Evans is a visual artist who works in the medium of film and photography. The key themes and concerns of her practice are the relationships between documentary style photography and staged photography. She has exhibited her artwork extensively, both internationally and in the UK including Late at Tate, Brighton Photo Fringe and the Courtauld Institute. She studied for an MA at the Royal College of Art, London and has completed a practice-led PhD in film at Chelsea College of Art.

Recent projects include directing ‘Slow Learner’, a Monologue for the University Women In the Arts Showcase performed by Abigail Oaks at the Royal Court Theatre. Alice was shortlisted for the art/science residency at CERN in Geneva in 2017. She was awarded a position at the Feature Expanded residency at HOME Manchester/Firenze 2016 . Artschool/UK residency at Cell Project Space and Whitechapel Gallery 2010.

Alice set up her own production company Tiny Circus Birds in 2015, which has since produced three of her 15 short films; Somewhere In Macedonia (2016), a gay love story set in 1918 and Devon Gothic (2017) based on the imaginative life of Mary Shelley. Devon Gothic was awarded Best Director at Bristol Independent Film Festival in 2018. Her poetry film Laundry Aisle (2023) was screened at Los Angeles International Poetry Film Festival, Cambridge University’s CRASSH Film Festival (2022) and LiFF Lancaster in 2023.

Alongside practice as an artist, Alice works as a mental health campaigner for Mind & Rethink. She also works in schools and colleges helping make short campaign films with students to tackle bullying and discrimination. Clients have included The Anne Frank Trust, UK and City & Islington College, London.
